The Caribbean is most people’s idea of total rest and relaxation. If you’re wanting to get away from it all for a week or two, this part of the world is as laid-back as it’s possible to get without being completely horizontal, and you have plenty of choice when it comes to destination, how to get there, and how you want to see the area.
Cruising is hugely popular, and this is a good idea if you’re not sure which island to base yourself on, because you get to see so many, but if you prefer to be in one place and explore that to its max, then St Lucia is a fantastically beautiful choice.
For total R&R you can’t go far wrong, and there are plenty of options for relaxing holidays with Saga Travel in St Lucia, with many all-inclusive hotels offering total luxury and comfort.
The great thing about this island is its diversity, especially when it comes to landscape. Lush rainforests give way to paradise white-sand beaches, aquamarine sea, before turning again to mountainous terrain, and the famous Piton Mountains, as well as volcanoes. The palm trees won’t be the only things swaying in amazement.
The capital, Castries, is a must-visit, and it’s easy to get around the island with a good bus service ferrying you to and from. This city is quite cosmopolitan, but equally as laid-back as the rest of the island, set on a picturesque waterfront. Try some local cuisine here, which is as varied as the island itself, including nods to African, Indian, Spanish, French, and British influences. A spot of shopping should finish your day off nicely.
In your resort, you won’t be short of things to do, as you can take part in water-sports and snorkelling, however on a more chilled-out note, a gentle walk into the rainforest could be the order of the day, or a totally relaxed boat trip around the crystal clear waters, with amazing views.
Spa treatments are something to behold in St Lucia, using the most natural of products. The mud baths and sulphur springs in Soufriere are fantastic for softening skin and bringing back lost youth, as well as treating ailments such as arthritis; this is perhaps one of the most popular activities on the island. If this doesn’t float your Caribbean boat, how about a total body massage with a view to remember?
Wherever you choose to visit on St Lucia, be it the capital, Castries, the beautiful south coast, Morgan Bay, or even Coconut Bay, one thing is for sure – nobody will be bored on St Lucia, but if total rest and relaxation is what you’re after, you’re looking in the right direction, with a very sunny outlook indeed.
