A spot of luxury is something we all need from time to time, a chance to spoil ourselves and our loved ones with something a little more upmarket, a chance to get away from the rat-race that can easily encompass our entire lives if we’re not careful. Obviously we have to take money into account, but if you’re looking to splurge on a luxury holiday, then Sydney is certainly somewhere to consider, with plenty of choices to bring luxury with a capital L to your visit.

Glittering, high-end, and splendidly scenic, Sydney offers everything you could want from a luxury break, with a laid-back atmosphere to boot. When it comes to getting to the heart of the action however, why not upgrade your travel to first class? This obviously depends on where you’re flying from, be it long or short haul, however upgrading can give you more comfort, more fun, and of course, more luxury, which is the name of the game in this case!

Obviously, everyone’s idea of luxury is totally different; for one person it might be a meal out one night, but for another person it could be champagne and caviar with a view. Whatever your idea of luxury, these ideas for your luxury break in Sydney should give you some sophisticated food for thought. The thing to remember, however? Always book in advance.

Base yourself somewhere grand

Your hotel is probably going to be one of the first things you remember when you play back your holiday in your mind, so you want the lasting image to be a good one. You won’t struggle to find a huge range of hotels in Sydney, and there are certainly plenty which tick the luxury box, and then some. Look for five star, or even four star, possibly a suite, room service, amenities, and somewhere central, so you don’t have to wander too far to head into the city centre for your entertainment. You have many choices, including Four Season Hotel Sydney, Park Hyatt Sydney, or Sofitel Sydney Wentworth as just a few suggestions.

A meal with a rather spectacular view

The aforementioned champagne and caviar might be on your mind, or for you luxury could simply be about sharing a delicious meal with a loved one, in restaurant with a view. Again, you won’t struggle to find this in Sydney, and with a skyline to rival some of the best in the world, think height when you’re searching for your restaurant of choice. If you want Michelin stars to boost the quality of your foodie choice, then you have a few options in Sydney – Quay is repeatedly voted as one of the best restaurants in the world, located on Sydney Harbour, with one of the best views you could imagine, and food to make your mouth-water, almost like a work of art.

Do remember that the best restaurants in Sydney will need to be pre-booked, possibly even weeks in advance, so don’t just rock up and expect to find a table! Always think ahead.

Evening cocktails

Blu Bar is a great place to head for a sophisticated cocktail or three, with amazing views out over Sydney Harbour. Remember the dress code here, a smart-casual affair, and be sure to get there early for the best table, with the best views. Alternatively, if you’re wanting to dance the night away in luxurious settings, then pre-book a VIP table at one of the city’s biggest clubs, such as Marquee Sydney, or Pacha Sydney. The list is endless here.

Pamper yourself in a day spa

Treatments and total rest and relaxation are a must when you’re on a city break of any kind, and you have several options when it comes to day spas in Sydney. Luxury at the Rocks, part of the Hyatt Sydney, is one of the best on offer, with a range of programmes to suit need and budgets. Treatments, a chance to kick back and relax, and totally opulent surroundings greet you when you visit somewhere as tranquil as a day spa; there is nothing more luxurious than being able to easily forget your cares and worries whilst someone massages them away, perhaps throwing a pedicure and manicure into your plans too.

Do a little credit card damage

Sydney is a shopper’s heaven, and the designer choices are fantastic. Obviously, if you prefer to treat yourself in more High Street surroundings, then you won’t have a problem finding this, but if you are going all out for luxury and want to splurge on a designer tag or two, head to the Queen Victoria Building, Strand Arcade, and Westfield Sydney for some big names, such as Miu Miu, Hugo Boss, and Karen Millen, to name a few. Your credit card could certainly be crying by the time you leave Sydney, but you will have plenty to show for it!

Shopping with a little help

You could go down the personal shopper route, letting someone else do the hard work and save your feet when it comes to finding a new outfit or two, or you could do something totally different and book the Chic in the City experience. This is basically where you will feel like a celebrity, on a chauffeured shopping trip, with someone else to hold the doors open, and someone else to carry the bags. You will be shown where the celebrities shop, and have the help of a stylist to help you find your new top of the range outfit. You get champagne, a goody bag, and you get special discounts too – what could be better?

As you can see, you won’t struggle to find sophistication and luxury in this vibrant and colourful city. Planning a luxury break in Sydney is about what you class as luxurious, but this is a city that caters for every whim, so you are sure to find something that floats your rather sophisticated boat in whatever guise you see fit.
